Hake (Merluccius poli) is another white fish from the same family as cod and haddock.  Hake tends to have an even lighter, more fragile flake than both cod and haddock and when cooked can yield a white/very slightly pink flesh with a mild flavour.  Hake takes flavours very well and is a really good alternative to cod for all the salt’n’vinegar fans out there, because all of our hake is cooked and served skinless producing a really crispy and light product ideal for eating with fingers straight from the paper!  Hake is probably our easiest fish to eat for those not overly smitten with seafood.

Although hake is a staple on our menu, occasionally we offer day boat fish on our specials board landed into Brixham or Newlyn.  This hake is served skin on and as with all day boat fish is of superb quality, selling out quickly particularly when chargrilled in our delicious Cajun spices…
